Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era 1.0 release: Apr 2027Not announced: our best guess from Unfrozen's plan to stay in Early Access for about a year.
Best guessUnfrozen's Early Access answers on Steam say it plans "to remain in Early Access for a year" from Apr 30, 2026, and its May 28, 2026 roadmap puts 1.0 after Stage 2 (Q4 2026) and a Stage 3 with no date. Stage 1 shipped on time on Sep 30, 2026, so we count to the first anniversary of Early Access, at the hour Unfrozen announced the Early Access release (13:00 UTC). Steam

Neutral Creatures

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era launched with 18 neutral creatures; the patch notes name the Pixie (tier 1), Ghoul (2), Animated Armor (3), Starchild and Primal Remnant (4), Giant Toad (5), Couatl and Worldwatcher (6), the tier 8 Lich Dragon and the Groll. The public beta of Oct 15, 2026 adds the Mummy (5) and the Kitsune (7), and more tier 8 neutrals are planned.

Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era launched with 18 neutral creatures, creatures that belong to no faction and guard the adventure map, against 6 in Heroes 3's base game, by Unfrozen's count in Devlog #15 (Apr 24, 2026). Unfrozen's patch notes name them by tier: the Pixie (tier 1), Ghoul (2), Animated Armor (3), Starchild and Primal Remnant (4), Giant Toad (5), Couatl and Worldwatcher (6) and the Lich Dragon, the only tier 8 creature in the game (beta, Oct 15, 2026; Patch #8; Patch #11). The Mummy (tier 5) and the Kitsune (tier 7) joined on the public beta on Oct 15, 2026, which is not yet the main version of the game, and the roadmap promises that "Lich Dragons will get some company" at tier 8.

Beta changes come from the beta patch notes of Oct 15, 2026 and are not final. The notes also name Halflings and the Sentinels of Glory without a tier.

The Lich Dragon

The Lich Dragon is Olden Era's only tier 8 creature. Patch #8 (Jun 1, 2026) raised its magic resistance so it "now reduces incoming Magic Damage by 85% (previously 60%)", which makes spells a poor answer to it. Its abilities are "Self-Reconstruction", described wrongly at launch and fixed in Patch #1 (May 1, 2026), and "Bone Armageddon", which can hit allies (beta). Stage 3 of the roadmap, on the road to 1.0, adds "New neutral Tier 8 Creatures".

The Mummy and the Kitsune

Unfrozen announced two new creatures on Sep 30, 2026: "a majestic classic creature that fans of the series have known for a long time", and "a brand-new, nimble and mysterious arrival to the world of Enroth", one "well known across many fantasy settings" (Unfrozen). The beta of Oct 15, 2026 added the Mummy at tier 5 and the Kitsune at tier 7, each "a new neutral enemy" (Unfrozen). They are on the public test branch only until the update reaches the main game; Unfrozen expects the test to last "several weeks".

Beta footage posted by the Heroes 3.5: WoG Portal channel on Oct 17, 2026 opens the Kitsune's creature window on the adventure map: a purple fox with several flame-tipped tails, shown with its list of active abilities.

The Mummy follows in the same window: a tall, slender figure wrapped in gold bandages and holding a staff, with its own abilities listed beside it.

Later in the same video, a hero fights several stacks of Kitsune on a grassy hex battlefield.

Old creatures, new designs

Several neutrals come from Enroth's older games. Unfrozen says the world is "going through technological decline the closer we get to the events of the RPG Might and Magic VIII", and shows the Worldwatcher as a reimagined "TERMINATOR" Drone from Might and Magic 6 and the Couatl, the feathered serpent of Might and Magic 8, beside their originals (Devlog #15). The same devlog sets the Pixie and the Unicorn of Heroes 2 beside their Olden Era designs. More on the setting in Jadame.

Neutrals on the map

Neutral stacks guard paths, mines, treasure and map objects, and the Random Map Generator makes sure "paths blocked by very strong neutral squads" never cut a player off (Devlog #6, Dec 16, 2024). Since Patch #10 (Jun 18, 2026), the formation chosen in the tactics phase is saved per hero for standard battles against neutrals. Unfrozen expects players to "hire neutral troops" as well (Unfrozen, Aug 29, 2024), and dwellings on the map keep stacking their growth week after week until visited (FAQ: Part 2). The faction creatures are on Creatures.

Norovo's beginner's guide (May 4, 2026) explains where the strongest guards stand on random maps: between the zones, "almost always found on roads", and harder to avoid than in Heroes 3, because a hero "can't dimension door or fly over them". Breaking through one opens the next zone, with tougher neutrals and bigger rewards.
