Price

The game costs $39.99 in the US, £34.99 in the UK, €39.99 in the eurozone and ¥3,980 in Japan, as RPG Site reported on launch day, Apr 30, 2026. Unfrozen's announcements never state the base price; the Steam store does. Ubisoft Connect is not needed to play (FAQ Part 2).

Unfrozen warns that the price may rise before the game is finished. Its answer in Steam's Early Access section reads: "We might increase the price during the Early Access period as additional content and features are added" (Steam). No increase has been announced as of Oct 21, 2026, and nothing has been said about the price at 1.0 (1.0 Release Date).

Game Pass and the Microsoft Store

0:04 Olden Era came out on the same day on Steam and on the Microsoft Store and Xbox PC app as a Game Preview, the Microsoft name for an early access game, and it has been included in PC Game Pass from day one (Unfrozen, Apr 1, 2026; RPG Site, Apr 30, 2026). It is a PC game there too: no version for Xbox consoles has been announced. Unfrozen's sales milestones count Steam copies only, so Game Pass players are not in the 1,000,000 copies it reported on May 28, 2026 (Reception and Sales).

Not on GOG or Epic

Olden Era is not sold on GOG or the Epic Games Store as of Oct 21, 2026. Unfrozen and its publishers have announced only Steam and the Microsoft Store, and neither GOG nor Epic lists the game.

Editions, DLC and bundles

There is only the standard edition. Steam sells no DLC, soundtrack, art book, deluxe or supporter pack for Olden Era as of Oct 21, 2026 (Steam). The only other ways to buy it there are bundles: Hooded Horse's "Strategy RPG Bundle", with MENACE and Heart of the Machine, and the Hooded Horse publisher bundle. Unfrozen has said it was "considering adding more factions" through possible DLC later (Devlog #13, Aug 29, 2025), but no DLC has been announced. New maps and features have come as free updates so far (Patch Notes).

The demo

0:59 A free demo came out on Oct 9, 2025 with four factions (Temple, Dungeon, Necropolis and Schism) and the Classic, Single Hero and Arena modes (Unfrozen). It is a separate Steam app, 3241970, which Steam still listed on Oct 21, 2026; Unfrozen said in Oct 2025 that it would warn players before removing it (Unfrozen). Hooded Horse's demo trailer shows the Arena draft and battles, then ends on "Play the demo now" with "Four factions", "Three game modes" and "Three templates".

Steam Deck

Valve rates Olden Era "Playable" on Steam Deck, with notes that the default controller layout is not fully functional, that on-screen glyphs do not match the Deck's buttons, and that text input does not bring up the on-screen keyboard (Steam, read Oct 21, 2026).
